Office Makeover: Changing the walls.

So I realized that I never posted pictures of what the office looked like before.  Please forgive me! I think I was writing and watcing TV. . . obviously not a very good multi-tasker eh? Here are the before shots.

Looking In.

Right side.

I am ashamed to say I picked out the wall color. Before we painted it the room was a dark gray- almost black. The room does not get alot of light so I thought this color might brighten things up. Negative-I grew to hate it. I think it just did not work with everything else we had going on in that room.

Okay so back to the office makeover. Here are some paint samples we had to choose from.

Shades of Gray

I know we said the room was previous gray and kept it dark BUT we really love the color gray and thought a lighter shade would work better. And so it did. We are in love with the colors. Here they are.

Love.

So once the walls were painted and looking beautiful Jamie started on the flooring. He was able to lay all the floors in a day and half ALL BY HIMSELF! I am super proud!

Beautiful.

We loved the colors so much we even took it into the closet.

Yay.

And lastly I will give you a idea of what we are doing on the dark gray wall with the wood.

Peeking In.

I am really excited about the progress we are making. It been hard trying to live in our house while redoing a whole room. Plus having a life outside DIY projects. Hope yall will come back next Monday so I can show off the finished accent wall. Plus I want to share how we turn the closet into a ultimate storage room. It is almost like a mini library for us! Have a great week!

D-Day

Last week I mention Jamie and I are going to make over our third bedroom that currently functions as a office. So I thought D day would be the perfect tittle for this post , aka Demolation  Day.  The day where the most work occurs the fastest. We were able to quickly empty the room’s furniture pull upcarpet. After we moved everything out we turn around to see the rest of our house had quickly become a cluttered. We don’t have a garage so up till now the office had been our office and storage room. It was amazing how much stuff was able to fit in that room yet it filled up the rest of the house.  It is so horrible we have refused to have guest over because it is kinda embarressing. The only functioning room is our bedroom but even in their is Jamie’s desk resting at the foot of our bed. Haha oh well that is the life of a DIYER. Anyways  here is a picture from Day 1.

Day 1

Here is a sneak peek of what is to come.

And in cause you are a super curious person like me and want to know every detail of what is going in our office here is a what is on our to do list:
  1. Lay down hardwood floors
  2. Pant the walls
  3. Use the pile of wood to create a focal piece on the wall
  4. Add more storage to the closet.

So hopefully yall will follow us along as we check things off our To- do list. We have not created a time line for this project but we are guessing it will only take a few weekends. Hopefully we can surive in our house till then. Right now it makes the people on that hordershow look like neat freaks. Wish us luck! We hope to keep our sanity!

Craigslist Find

This will be the first post of many that will explain the changes that are going on in our third bedroom/home office. It has taken some time  because we are always using it so it has made it hard to make it over when in use.  Just like most projects we have been collecting items for it before we jump in. Thanks for craiglist we were able to find a key item for the office-a chair!

I had a vision for a uper modern chair for Jamie’s office but we didn’t want to spend more than $100. Well I found this chair on craigslist for $40.

When we met with the seller we saw some imperfections on the chair, like it only had one arm rest. Yup just one. So we are able to talk the guy down to $15 and cut off the other arm once we got home.

So Yay a 40 dollar chair for $15. Plus it kinda reminds me of cool modern chairs I have seen at Crate & Barrel:

Crate & Barrel $199.00 Crate & Barrel $299.00

So here is the first piece to Jamie’s new office. Check back next week and we will show you what we able to accomplish in the first work day.

P.S.

Here are some before photos to show what we are working with.

Office

Bedroom Art

I mention week before last that not only did we add a new bed to our room but also some new art. So here is a few photos to show what we changed.

Anniversary Photos

The art on the dressers are just scrapbook sheets from a craft stire I am not a scrapbooker but I LOVE the paper.  Believe me I tried to create a scrapbook for Jamie to showcase photos from our honeymoon. During the scrapbooking process it fell apart. Yes I am that bad. Oh well! I love this scrapbook page though because the pink adds a girlie touch and it is displayed on my side.  The monogram letters stayed and are also from a craft store. They kinda help designated our sides of the bed. Plus I tend to write our monogram CBJ not JBC so it kind embedded in me to always put the C before the J.

The photos were actually photos Jamie & I took years ago on our second year dating anniversary, a trip we took to Charlottesville area. The tree photo contribues to the theme of  the rest of the house. We have bird and tree photos and art throughout.

I am ecstatic that our bedroom is finally complete especially because so much of it reflects our love and our memories together.

Paint Ideas for Bathroom

So did anyone else get excited when they saw the Glidden commercials advertisting their free paint samples they were giving away? I counted down the days until I could sign up! I just recently got my samples in the mail jumped for joy. Yeah I am a dork that gets excited about paint.

I picked Elegant Lace and Muslim White.

Free Samples

I was hoping to do strips in my bathroom. . . like those on younghouseloves.com bathroom. However there are too many corners and angles in my bathroom so that won’t work. Regardless I was able to look at the paint on the wall and choose a color. I apologize the picture is not to great. The paint samples I picked are very similar to the current paint color in the bathroom.

The Elegant Lace is the darker color and the Muslim White is the lighter. Having these awesome free samples really helped me decide on what paint to go with. I was able to paint on different parts of the wall do see how the light would reflect the color. I was so amazed I think next time we paint a room we will def. have to purchase paint samples first.
